Because It's There

“Why do you want to climb Mount Everest?” 

A simple, straightforward, down to earth question 

Instantaneously flashed before his eyes 

Extreme hardships testing endurance 

Steel resolve resisting corroding failures

Footsteps trudged through smothering snow 

An eternal load of dear ones left behind 

The Summit fueling his fading, forlorn hope

Pristine beauty reaching for the sky 

Majestic serenity of the land beyond life 

A sharp rebuttal from a weathered soul

“Because it's there!” 

 

Oh lord, you are ever perfect 

We finite are drawn towards infinite 

We are parts that seek to be whole

Our fear drives us to be courageous 

We hate so we can love 

We alone can traverse this blessed journey full of hardships 

You cannot transcend yourself 

Hence we are created to climb
