Ambitious Curtains

Ambitious Curtains

She stands on the other side of the curtain,

Peaking to see if she could join,

The company of those successful.

The blessed ones of their field.

The ones who can now relax,

For they’ve reached a pinnacle,

Or the start to the next ladder.

She waits to tear apart the curtain,

Barge in and claim her stake.

But inexperience is her bane!

‘Young achiever’ they say to her face,

But look down with disdain in the other place.

She wonders why it is difficult to accept,

Talent without age.

And capability with no grey hair.

She marvels at the hypocrisy of the cycle,

The cycle of experience and work.

To work one must be experienced.

But to be experienced one must work.

Where are the good old days of chances?

The days where opportunity was opportune.

Where the experienced were comfortable with inexperience,

Where the experienced wanted to be mentors,

Where the experienced wanted fresh blood,

When did the experienced become so rigid?

Their disdain now positively frigid!

Inexperience cannot overpower years of effort, they say.

Inexperience cannot be a boon of fresh clarity, they say.

Inexperience must learn to be servile,

For only then can they shine!

They call it patience,

Too afraid to call it obsolescence.
