A One-sided Wait
A One-sided Wait
Clasping a rose in my hand,
Inside the front gate I stand
Seeing her across the street,
I felt each skipped heartbeat
My shivering lips try to aloud utter her name,
The prolonged silence playing the insecure game
A deeper but softer voice echoed,
She turned, and her smile on me was bestowed
The excitement had my dimple the most deep,
How long could my soul escape from taking this affectionate leap?
This intense pause had my eyes teared,
A quick goodbye was what I most feared
My curling toes resisted the next step,
The introverted me as always, shattering this divine pep
How long would an unaware her wait?Biting my quivering fingers for cowardly unable to unlatch the opportunity gate
The clock gave a few more ticks,
Melting away my desires like an icecream with just a few more licks
Her gorgeous nail-painted fingers waved a subtle bye,
Weakening my knees to sit and just stare at the dark sky
A hidden thorn pricked, and flowed a drop of crimson red,
'A small reward of regret', my brain said
Bookmarking the rose and noting the day,
The older dried petals AGAIN giving my future hopes a way
