A Misfit's Monologue
A Misfit's Monologue
Find me a place in this world,
They said we were unique.
I cannot conform, I cannot follow
I do not care, so what if I am so?
I extend my hand to you, stranger
And ask for your companionship.
Never mind where I come from
Or the way I talk
Walk
For however different you and I may be,
Together we shall create wonders,
Infuse greatness into whatever we do
And find a greater purpose and destiny in this world,
Our motivations, dreams, and passions
Shall be one and the same
Are you ready stranger?
To be my friend?
My loyal comrade?
It is easy for you to say you are not afraid of me
But I see it in your eyes each time I talk to you
Your eyes, they narrow, you resort,
To nodding or shaking your head
Yet a moment ago I saw who you really are
You feel insecure
Your steady stream of jokes and laughter,
Halts midway as it faces
An imagined boulder in me.
Why so, stranger?
I am fond of fun as much as you are
In this vibrant youth, we both share,
We have yet to discover so many wonders.
So what if I am a bit different from you,
Slightly grave, serious and formal,
Not so quick to display physical affection.
A hug or backslap doesn't come as naturally to me
As it may come to you,
But hear me stranger, do not go yet.
I must let you know today
If we ever are as fortunate
As to forge the bond of fraternity
I shall forever be your loyal comrade.
I shall stand by you in trying times,
I shall learn as much from you,
As you shall learn from me
And as our friendship grows,
Our souls entwined shall take flight,
who knows what we may find
On this glorious journey together
As both of us strive towards a greater destiny.
Are you ready, stranger?
Are you ready?
