A Daughter's Monologue

A Daughter's Monologue

Father! Do not treat me as untouchable

Touching my things will not kill you

Speaking softly to me will not suffocate you

I am a human being too, just like your son

Father! I may come from other parents

But they taught me to respect all

And not to compromise with self-respect

I have a heart that feels too, just like your son

Father! Please peep into your soul

When you point a finger at me

You are right in many things

And I may be right in some of those things

I have a mind too, just like your son

Father! Let me spread my wings to fly

I have desires and dreams too

If your son is free to live his dreams

Why am I expected to sit at home?

Father! Treat me as an individual

I am not only a girl, but I am also a human being too

Trust me to support you when you need

I am strong too, just like your son

Father! I am a daughter

A sister and a mother

A friend and a professional

I speak for all daughters

And I speak to the world

Let me, a daughter,

Explore and win

Just like your son!
