Story Of Sonu And Pinki

Sonu and Pinki were two cousins in a village of Bihar in Patna District. Both of them were of almost same age and their birth year was 1983. Since his birth Sonu mostly stayed with his Nani while Pinki was with her parents. But due to some family issue Sonu has to move with his parents despite not wanting so. It was not like that Sonu didn't like his parents instead he loved his Nani so much that he never wanted to leave her. Any way destiny brought him to his own village Sitapur where Pinki was staying. Sonu and Pinki were part of a large joint family. Five brothers and all their family use to stay in same house. It was a large house with multiple rooms and one common area between rooms known as aangan. All kids of the family used to go to same school being run in the campus of a famous temple of Lord Shiva.

Sonu was of soft nature and very much talkative, somehow he found more closeness among his cousin sisters than brothers. He used to love games which were more common among girls like he loved to play with dolls. Slowly Sonu and Pinki started talking more and they became childhood pals of each other. As they grew in age their friendship grew stronger and stronger. Both of them were more sincere in study then their cousins, however Pinki always used to get higher marks. But marks didn't bring any sense of enmity between them. Despite being from influential family, financial conditions of their family were not good. For kids there very limited means of entertainment but they used to enjoy their life a lot. They used to play some simple but very interesting games, some of them included marriage of dolls, titi-titi( a game played in 2×3 box made from chowk usually on roof), ganna goti (games played from small pieces of stones), chor sipahi, ludo, etc.)

As we know, both of them were good and also sincere in their studies and wanted to achieve something in life. Though for Sonu also, their were multiple obstacles but he was a boy and hence family wanted him to do a good job while for Pinki family's main intention was to get a good earning husband. Both Sonu and Pinki had one elder brother and both of them were not so serious about studies may be because they were quite lazy.

Sonu's elder brother was very intelligent but his love for sleep was so immense that he could not opt for a professional study that is doctor/engineer. This made Sonu's path easier, probably their family could afford only one child in some good private schools in city and Sonu got that chance. Though he had to face lots of challenges but his mother was always his strength and that helped him achieve his dreams. Some times he used to say among his family members that one day he will earn at least 50K to 1 Lakh a month and family members used to laugh and considered it a childish dream. Today he is earning more than that but unfortunately his biggest strength is no more with him. He lost his mother, her mother was always there for being his strength but when he became strong his mother left him. Sonu is always pained about this as he wanted to bring all happiness to his mother but she is no more with him for that.

On the other hand Pinki's story went totally different. Despite being good in studies, her family could not afford to give her a quality education outside the village/town. Her family's main focus was on her brother who was supposed to be the bread earner for his future family. Today his brother is in a very good job with a national Bank but probably if given a chance Pinki would have been also at some very good job. In no way I undermine the role of a housewife, my mother who was working housewife is the sole reason for my success. But I know Pinki does have a dissent from society that she was not given an opportunity. Today she has to be dependent on her husband for any monetary decision, some times she is laughed off by her husband. I hope some day her husband will understand that Pinki might have been doing a very good job if opportunity would have been given. I know here husband is also a good man but he tries to show superiority over her simply because of its societal construct where male always feel they are better than women. Also, I hope Pinki would understand that her role is no way lesser than a role of a working women. Because she is a wife and she is a mother, a mother is one who creates future. She shall not do the same thing with her future generations because of which she remained behind in some areas.

PS: above mentioned props remind me of village as in our house we also had chulha made of mitti. Though name used in the stories are not real but this story is real.
