Blooms of Lockdown

A week into the lockdown…. Life was becoming boring for Ahan. He was holed up in his flat with absolutely nothing to do. The balcony that faced the North Building was now his favorite spot. He did not have many friends. He was deaf- mute. But his super sensory vision was his blessing. And …he saw her. 

Dea lived right across Ahan’s flat. He had seen her often while waiting at the bus stop on his way to office. They had to go in opposite directions and did not get a chance to speak to each other. Another problem was that Ahan had his own fears and worries ….’will she accept me, she might feel sorry for me, she might not understand me….’.

He had to do something. Loneliness and his heart’s pull to meet the beautiful maiden brought him to her door within a week. He rang the bell. The door opened. Dea’s heart missed a beat. This was the moment she was waiting for. 

She asked, ‘Yes, may I help you?’

Ahan was not able to reply. So, he made a few signs. Dea replied in sign language. He was surprised. As their conversation in signs progressed Ahan came to know that Dea is a teacher in the Deaf and Dumb School in the city. He was happy to find someone to interact with. He had found a friend.
