Malgudi

Malgudi is a fictional town located in South India. It was created in the novels and short stories of R.K. Narayan. It forms the setting for most of his works. From his first novel, Swami and Friends (1935), all but one of his fifteen novels and most of his short stories take place here in Malgudi. In fact, this was a portmanteau of two Bangalore localities - Malleshwaram and Basavanagudi.

Last year, I heard about the short stories named 'Malgudi Days' and started reading them. I enjoyed each story in this series.

My younger brother's annual day function was round the corner. I decided to go in it as in this way I could pay a visit to my school as well, as I passed a few years ago from the same institution.

On the annual day, the first play enacted was that of 'Malgudi Days'. It was a pleasant surprise for me as recently I had read the series with so much interest. Nishant, my younger brother played the role of Swami in the play. And the whole play recreated the magic of the Malgudi Days!
