Don't Stand At My Grave

Don't Stand At My Grave

Don’t stand at my grave and cry,

When you don’t regret the mistakes

You kept making, allowing me to die.

Your glistening eyes that once held ignorance,

Now hold remorse but it’s too late now.

Those salty droplets won’t make any difference.

I believed that you were capable of change,

So I waited as time was running out with my patience.

But you stayed the same. I didn’t find it strange.

Liberty greeted you with open arms,

Oblivious to your intentions and capabilities.

But you indulged it and devoid its charms.

Later when a force of penalty runs towards you,

You come to me again, weeping helplessly.

And I’m sorry I can’t do anything but punish you.

But I fail to realize how foolish you are to continue

Committing crimes, big and little while

Bystanders do nothing but silently stand by you.

Don’t stand at my grave of law and cry.

You’re blinded by absolute ignorance to see me.

Remember though, that I’m invisible to you, I did not die.
