Acid Rain

Acid Rain

It’s coming! It’s coming! RUN!

A commotion of scrabbling, and,

A sea of frantic umbrellas. The attack begun.

The dark clouds mercilessly have them stunned,

Their surprise assault had many victims,

All leaving together in masses of hundreds and thousands.

Leaving not the innocent young playing in the parks.

Nor the helpless old unable to run for their lives.

Not the rich man relaxing by the beach,

Now seeking for shelter with charred skin.

Nor the poor woman amidst of her daily work,

With nowhere to take refuge, no hope of getting home.

It’s a calamity. More dangerous than tsunamis,

And earthquakes, and volcanoes, and hurricanes.

It’s acid that burns. Acid that slowly kills.

Suffocating heat takes over your body,

As your skins erode. Burning, choking, shrieking;

You have no choice but to die or die.

But when you recall those days you spent,

Looking forward to the showers of the sky.

When the little droplets held blissful memories,

And we were dancing with them. Splish-splash-splosh!

You’d never have thought that they could become killers,

That they’d ever become the acid rain.
