I am at a stage in life where I want my son to become self-independent of few things and still be dependent on me and my husband for another few.

Oh boy! When did he grow this big? I still remember the day when I told him "when will you become old enough for me to be able to scold you" (this was when he was 8 months old :-) ). I had decided the moment he would turn 1, my scoldings should start. Well, I was a young mother living a life full of heartaches at the office and home and I still do. The only difference is the aches are deeper as everyone has grown up :)

But today I am beaming with pride about an incident, yet my motherly instincts which give me a flurry of anxious thoughts. And I guess this is just a beginning. With his growing years will come more of such exciting yet anxious moments.

So here is what happened. Maids are an integral part of our lives. They not only support in taking care of my son in our absence but also help in keeping my house sparkling clean all the time (Clean house breed happy thoughts you know :) What that results in is my happiness and in turn my husband's.

But here is the twist, Due to some unavoidable circumstances I had to let my maid go and there came a big question of who will take care of my son. While we were frantically looking for another maid and in the process had both, awful and seemingly fruitful conversation the same day with different maids only to conclude that nothing can be done immediately. We were upset and highly disappointed but managed to come out of it only because my son told me not to worry and he would take care of himself properly. Alone. He managed to stay alone at our house today. Yes, he managed to open the door with the keys, change, drink water, eat an apple, eat the snacks surprisingly ALL BY HIMSELF. While, there were traces of uniform, shoes, bags, socks, utensils lying all over the house. I entered the house only to find him asleep peacefully with a book in his hand. I woke him up for ten minutes. When he did, He was still happy and calm. It didn't bother him much that he was alone. He was in his usual self and that gives me a feeling of what an amazing kid me and my husband have created. Happy to announce his first independent day :)
