32-year-old Sarika Mittal was excited. Her husband Ravi had bought her a diamond necklace for her birthday. She kept on demanding expensive gifts from him ever since they got married a year ago. Her parents in law were annoyed with her luxurious lifestyle. She did not care for money. She never did any household chores or go for a job. She spent her husband's hard-earned money on clothes and jewelry.

Her parents-in-law requested her either to lend a helping hand at home or go for a job. She ignored their pleas. One day, she crossed all her limits when she bought clothes and jewelry worth one lakh rupees. Ravi and his parents were shocked beyond words at her audacity. Ravi said sarcastically, "I hope you are satisfied now. Have you left any clothes or jewelry for other women?" She ignored his comments and went to her room with her purchase.

Finally, Ravi decided to teach her a lesson. He quietly paid all her bills. He contacted his bank official and discussed his plan with the manager. The manager, Vivek also happened to be one of his close friends. He said, "I wish I could play a prank like this on my wife as well. However, I must admit that she is not as bad as yours." Ravi replied, "This is not a joke. I want to make her realize the true value of hard-earned money." He canceled the credit card after clearing all the dues. He also instructed Vivek not to inform Sarika about the bill payment.

Sarika went for shopping the very next day. Since she had her credit card, she did not carry any cash. She purchased designer outfits worth Rs.20,000. She kept on trying to swipe the card for several minutes. The equipment refused to process her payment. The shopkeeper lost his temper, and shouted at her, "Please don't waste my time. Either pay cash or leave everything and go."

Sarika was so embarrassed that she dropped her purchase and went home. Her parents-in-law were surprised to see her return emptyhanded. Her mother-in-law asked her, "What is the matter, dear? Why haven't you bought anything today?"

Sarika burst into tears and told them about her predicament. They looked at each other. Ravi arrived shortly and found her sobbing her heart out. He winked at his parents and signaled them to be quiet. He consoled her and said, "Don't you worry, my darling. We will sort out this issue immediately."

He pretended to call the bank manager for clarification. "What?" he thundered, "How is it possible?" His face was grim and lost all its color. He disconnected the call and turned to face her.

Sarika looked at him expectantly. He said, "The manager says that there is no money in my account. I remember having sufficient balance. Somebody must have hacked my account. I have lost my money. I am afraid I can't pay your bill of one lakh rupees." Sarika shrieked, "No! You can't do this to me. Please pay this bill for one last time. I promise you that I won't go shopping for a long time." Ravi told her that he was helpless. His mother intervened at that moment and said, "I will pay this bill for you, dear. However, I want you to sign this document before I give you the amount. Let me make it clear that I am not going to give you cash directly. I will hand it over to Ravi for payment." Sarika looked relieved and immediately signed the document without reading it.

Sarika woke up with a smile on her face. She was surprised to find Ravi with a tray of teacup and breakfast. He said, "Pack your clothes quickly. We are going out for a very long vacation." Sarika got ready in no time. They left for Airport in New Delhi. "Where are we going?" she asked him. He answered, "We are going to visit your parents in Mumbai. You are going to stay with them until you repay the loan of Rs. 1 lakh." Sarika and her parents were speechless because of the sudden shock.

He left her and went back home. Her family looked at her in disgust. Her father asked her to contribute to household expenses. Her mother asked her to do all the household chores and then go for a job. She got a job in a call center.

She started working hard to save every penny. She did part-time jobs at weekends. She also paid for groceries and electricity bill. At the end of four months, she had managed to save Rs.1 lakh.

Her family was sorry to see her go. After returning home, Sarika touched the feet of her husband and parents-in-law. They were pleased to see a positive change in her attitude. She handed over the cheque of Rs.1 lakh to Ravi. He deposited it in her account.

She apologized to them for her bad behavior in the past. She promised Ravi that she would think twice before spending her money. Her family applauded her. Ravi hugged her, and so did her mother-in-law. She had turned over a new leaf after Ravi staged the credit card drama.
