The Rose Of My Life

The Rose Of My Life

I sat gazing at the peerless beauty of the moon, scenes from my childhood flashing before my eyes. I was sitting on the windowsill of my room, with silent tears welling up in my eyes. "I love you." I muttered to myself placing the bouquet of pink roses down.........

My sister had been diagnosed with cancer five years ago, lung cancer, they had said. "She is going to be alright", my mom would reassure me every time I inquired about her. I loved Rose - that was her name. She was the cherubic angel who lit up our lives. She had the most beautiful, blue eyes I had ever seen. She was the little angel of our house

I and Rose would always sit on the windowsill of my room, gazing at the moon, admiring the peaceful, mesmerizing scene. "You know I love you, right?", she once said out of the blue. "Yes, but I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else." I replied. She pressed my hand and gave me a soft kiss on the cheek.

After a few days after her chemotherapy, the doctors told us that Rose would not be able to live with us for a long time. Everyone knew about it - my parents, me and Rose herself. I hugged her very hard trying not to hurt her and not disturb her cannula and oxygen tank.

It was around Christmas time and the atmosphere was very cheerful and festive at my place. I and my mom were baking Christmas cookies in the kitchen, while Rose was playing outside in the living room. After some time I went there to check on her. I noticed her beautiful blue eyes were glistening with tears. I walked up to her asked what the matter was. "I don't want to leave you", she cried "I will never leave you.", I promised. "You won't leave me, but, but, but God won't let me stay with you", she sniffed. "It's okay", I assured her. "Only the best of the people can be with God", I said holding back my tears and clearing a lump in my throat. "But when you go there always remember, that I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else. She gave me a watery smile and said "I love you."...........

Rose died on the 5th of January, 10 days before my birthday. She took the light of our lives away with her. Although I miss her, I am sure that she is in a much better place somewhere in that parallel universe gazing at the moon and thinking about me. Rose, always remember that I love you more than I have ever loved anyone else.
