The Name

It was a not one Of that day out there that I could feel the warmness in the atmosphere it was time between noon and evening. The vehicles were noising over the road and I was observing that from my window. An infant cry was heard some far away, but still audible, the grandma living in neighbour watched me, and my pet playing with my sandals. It is regular setup near my house.

I checked my sonata, it was 4 pm and I felt happy inside and my face lit with smile. Because it was my time.

I, Kavan completed my B.Sc Botany degree 5 months ago, and now working in my home. My profile for working were washing clothes, gardening, cutting vegetables and fingers, and also to take care of my pet. My working time was 10am to 9pm. Other part time duties were listening music, reading books, playing games in laptop. But in the middle, somewhere near 4 to 4.30 I dedicated that time to ‘HER’

Her means the objective pronoun of female. She was mystery for me, and I didn’t know THE NAME of her.

It was last week I saw her first time on the nearby road while watering my hybrid rose plant which has grown tall enough and infested with beautiful purple coloured rose. It was my favourite plant and it fascinated others easily. By hearing her twinkling of anklets, I turned towards her. She was a brown eyed girl in her fit creamy uniform, with her straight trimmed hair in fashion, glittering face and a Gucci handbag hanging on her shoulder. Overall, I can guess a girl in her 20’s may be studying some stupid course in any of the colleges around my premises. She turned towards me while crossing our emanated gate and presaged a sparkling smile. I was just enticed and let down the watering and watched her going. She took a turn into the next street and it confirmed that she was living somewhere nearby my dynasty.

I am not a Romeo or loafer who go behind girl to search for, and you can comprehend I have not gone for her search, and past few months I have not seen the world for past five months and stayed inside the walls like a prisoner for no reason I remember the hero of ‘THE BET’, because moving outside will lead me to meet some people who are ready with a question ‘What are your plans after B.Sc.?’ I love to criticize them with my feelings. So from that day onwards I waited outside my house around 4 – 4.30 like a Romeo waiting for Juliet. My favourite hybrid purple rose plant was the reason where I could get a full view of her. She never missed her time and punctually arrive between 4 – 4.30. Every day she traversed our gate, every day she glimpsed at me, every day I waited for her and esteemed her for her presence . Neighbouring Grandma become suspicious of actions start observing me everyday. She scanned me like HOLMES from her ‘back window’ and gave look of that she is going to kill me. So observing that I start an activity to play with my pet on that particular time.

I was been deeply troubled by the frustration of knowing her and especially knowing “THE NAME” of her. Because of my shy nature I missed numerous occasion to ask her name. The reason is not that I am a misogynist admittedly it was my shyness and how worse it was means I ran away without answering a girl when she proposed me during my final year. I was such kind of foolish with ‘shyness at its peak’ and even unaware of flirting. Today it was something different there is courage, confidence and etc, to burst out my feeling for her if nothing else but asking her “THE NAME”. I was ready to brace any kind of problems as I thought I was not a loafer standing here. When a girl is ready to smile on you every day that means you are permitted to ask her at least her name. Rightly said in hindi “HASI TO PHASI”

Again, I checked my watch and now it was 4.17pm. My pet still playing with my sandals and the neighbour still watching me. She did not fool me and arrived on time. With her usual fit creamy uniform, straight hair, bright face, and Gucci handbag on shoulders she trooped towards me. The only difference was her footwear it was different colour from the regular one. She would require a walk of 8 foot steps to cross my gate. I was shuffling and scuffling with myself to bring out the courage to call her. Now she on her 3rd foot step and I am still struggling there. She turned towards me on her 4th foot step and signalled the usual smile which made me to withdraw my plan. My head started whirling and with that smile my courage has gone to nil. She completed her 8th step which means now she has already traversed me.

I grumbled and got down on the floor in embarrassment of my action. I moved in the series, felt very silly about me and thought myself a weakling. “Idiot, how could you lose this time, also?” I muttered to myself.

In a flash to my surprise once again I heard the twinkling noise of her anklet. When I got up I was totally taken aback because for me as she was standing around the corner. She has just burst in. I glued my eyes like a thief and stood dumb. I did not expect this shocked situation.

“Hey, what’s your name?” she asked me in a twinkling voice and a treacly expression on her face.

I was still in shock and my mouth started hesitating. To make even worse the situation, I forgot my own name when she asked me. I was searching the name in my blank mind.

“Yaa… I am… I am Kavan” (Thank God I recalled my Name) I stammered again.

“Ah Kavan, please can I get some flowers from that plant?” she pointed my favourite purple rose.

I would have relocated the whole plant for her, but I was careful about my mother and replied “Sure, sure”.

She started plucking some rose and uttered “Actually, every day while crossing your home, I would love to observe your lovely rose (purple) flower. As you were standing here all time I thought of asking you many times but I could not. Even I didn’t know your name. But today I was sure that I should ask you and I did”. And she smiled.

It was a total shock for me again. Actually, she did not smile at me whenever she crossed my home instead her target was purple rose. As I mentioned earlier, it would attract others easily. I was miss leaded by her looks. As said in some movie, the girls are like paintings hanging on the wall. From whatever the position you look at it, it looks like watching you from any side. Even I had the same problem.

“Thanks Kavan” she moved by collecting my favourite rose.

I looked at the roses and thought what it was more beautiful in this flower than me to get attention of her, I sat on the floor near my pet and spotted a purple rose near me fallen from the plant. I took it in hand and moped for a while.

An idea got sparked. Even now it is not over. Now she knows me, even my name she knows. So I can talk to her tomorrow with this reason at least.

“I will collect some flowers, wait for her tomorrow and will ask her THE NAME for sure ”I thought in mind and got a little smile on my face.”

Do I see her tomorrow? If so, I dare to ask her “THE NAME”.
