The Medicine Of Laughter

I lay on the hospital bed. Broken, fragmented, depressed.... all those negative words running through my mind. The results of my health check up had arrived and I had just finished reading it. It clearly said that I suffered from Brain Tumor, Stage 4. Couldn't this day get any worst? My parents and Dr. Ashwini were discussing about the cost and time of my chemo treatment. I am sure that I heard my mom cry outside but she did not want my mental woe to increase any further so she wiped her tears before she came in and soothed my defiant soul. She smiled at me. "Don't worry my sweet little cupcake, it is all gonna be fine. Don't forget that whatever happens...." "happens for a good reason." I completed her sentence. "What have I done mommy? Have I been so bad that now I can not even see my friends or have fun at school?" I asked with a broken heart and tearful eyes. "Oh honey! Don't you dare say anything like that. You have always been good and I know that you will get cured from this illness." she said trying to console me.

My treatments started from the following day itself. Minutes turned to days, days to weeks, weeks to months yet there was no improvement. My condition only worsened day by day untill one day the doctors said that all the attempts were futile. They said that I would only survive for another couple of months. On hearing this, even my father cried. Tears rolled down my cheeks. Only a miracle could save me now. Because I had only a few days left, my dad suggested me to enjoy the last days of my life with my entire family. We made world trips. France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Switzerland.... all across the globe. I nearly forgot that I was even a patient. The virtual live experience, 360 degree roller coasters, Go-karting races.... I really enjoyed it. All those pure jokes of my dad never became old. The same old pranks by my cousins, the desserts offered by my uncle, the laughter, everything was so memorable.

A year passed away and I only felt my health improve. When we did a complete health check up, I got so overjoyed that I literally jumped up and down with happiness. This time it said - Brain Tumor - Negative. So, what was it that saved me? Not the trip around the world, not the roller coaster but the laughter during the journey. Something that a highly certified treatment could not do was done by the magic of laughter. Who knew that one smile could buy me a whole new life?
