The Liar Leader

He is well, his physical measure is not short and medium; but can be said long. A debonair look he bestowed from nature while he dresses well; and when he was a young man, many women had, surprised with his muscularity, met him with huzzas, no one knew about his heart unless he or she is a donee from God’s spirit to search a human’s inner thought.

He was an office chief when I did meet him firstly, assigned politically for his commitment. Not meanwhile, permanently I have banned not to work in my country due to the hazy perception of African politics of mine; and a nasty manner of African leaders in general; I had been in hatred of politics heartedly. Here is so different, if someone is in conflict with politically tuned peoples, you might lose your nuptial matters, and your life will start the journey of misery, too.

I was a work unit leader under his supervision, recruited and hired by the recruitment committee with my educational qualification, experience and test score, but not assigned with a political nomination. I hate to be assigned with political nomination because I assume it as laziness in organizational leadership. What I needed in my organizational life was merit-based hiring or job promotion.

Mostly, political leaders are liars in their habit; make swindlers in their gab, and models in their actions, goofiest of all in detail tasks and in decision making. They talk much to get acceptance from the supporter, they hoax many times to reward themselves and their cliques, and they are prejudiced in decision making because they are always in the stand to subsidy peoples who have liked them. Hence organizational politics nomination necessitates not a higher level of expertise in the field but beguiles with cheating. So, who needs to be called as them?

Once I was an employee in the leading Political party of the country’s leaders to serve the public, recruited by the formal announcement and selection process, then hired but not assigned directly to the job position. After I started the job, I was not in underway to face challenges which were provoked not from the job behaviour but from the leadership viewpoints. The job was easy to be handled with skill, knowledge, and the behaviour of subordinates but no one could easily adapt him or herself with the organizational culture of that civil service organization of this nation. Because they have been tied with racial, knowledge drainage, criminal comportments especially attacked by nepotism and self-interests of employees that finally might emanate conflicts.

I remember that liar leader always in my life when I do tasks and entertains me sometimes. He was a different one amongst other leaders those I knew were in my organizational life. Once upon a time he came to my office and ordered me to prepare the quarterly report of my work unit and then he will compile all work units reports to send to the higher official of this country sub-city structural leaders of the municipal administration. And the reporting method was so easy, not complicated as technological devices efficiency report because almost all the government's offices have been used the so-called Balanced Score Card method of planning and report provision. Therefore I started to prepare the report easily from my targeted detail tasks and my goal striking success just by comparing from the BSC format. Then I did finish the report and realized that there were remnants of budgets and completed works of that quarter year with high efficiency. Oh! That was good to me and I was delighted because with the seventy-five percent of the allocated budget my work unit performed all the planned task and twenty-five percent of the budget has been seen as a leftover on the BSC and I were sure to that it would be seen on the balance sheet of the organization. What I was obliged to do was to prepare the report and I did prepare it beautifully, then brought it to the liar leader.

“Hi boss, I finished the report. Please take it.” I said just as I stood in front of his executive chair. His clique, the spinster, she was ogling around my trousers’ zip. I know why she did look at that position.

“Alright, you did a good job.” He said after he took a quick look at the report.

“Yeah, we did it. We saved 25 percent of the allocated budget, and we had worked effectively by minimizing cost and maximizing productivity at the employee level.” I said.

“Okay, afternoon, on 08:00 I called all work unit managers to discuss in the past quarter year report. Come on time.” He said to me and I returned to my office.

There is nothing not to be absent for the future, but he or she could be dead or alive while the time is reached, and the discussion time reached to be gathered in his meeting room. When I entered into his meeting room, all work unit managers who were not political leaders and all political leaders of that level took their seat. And I chose my sitting position at the corner of the hall to be alone because I had been unaccompanied in my prior life, I had been lonely, and I loved to be lonely.

The liar leader started to talk with his gloze, flattering words; and I never knew him as he was a hero to trick others. The cozener leader continued to brief the report of that quarter year performance, and I started to be afraid of his speech. Oh, what I realized in the middle of his talk was my report was not a relevant report to be compiled with other work unit reports to be a final one. What I knew here was, I was not informed for his trick. He did his report without asking all work unit manager and prepared his own based on a guess, or his prior data to steal all remnants of budgets for his own. He says that “hundred percent of the allocated budget is used appropriately to hit our targeted service, but I knew that twenty-five percent of the budget was left. And he did steal all leftovers of budgets from all work units and sent all monetary remnants to his pocket with the collaboration of the finance department head. The liar leader has been beloved by many employees since I knew him. Many people call him the moderate, the communicator, the change-maker, and debonair leader of that municipality area. But I and other work unit managers were fired counted as being considered as snags of the community.
