The Kites

A mother was flying kites with her ten-year-old son. The son thought that the string attached to the kite was not letting it fly at higher altitudes.

He said this to his mother. The latter smiled at his son and then took out a scissor and cut the string with which the kite was attached.

The kite flew a little higher after detaching from the string and then descended and fell down!

The boy was dejected and sat down. The boy's mother came up to him and sat beside him. She said to him that sometimes we feel after reaching greater heights in life, that certain things like family, friends, relationships, culture, etc are stopping us from getting higher in our lives. And we detach ourselves from them just like we cut the strings of the kites.

But then just like the kite fell down after detaching itself from the strings, we would also fall down similarly!

It is our family, friends, relationships, culture, etc which provide stability to us at greater heights. Without their support, we would fall down like the kites.

The boy understood what her mother was trying to say and promised to stay connected always!

The moral of the story is that we should never forget our roots. Our family, friends, relationships, culture form our strings which give us stability in higher altitudes of life. Today when grown-up children think their old parents a burden to them, they forget that they are the strings that have given stability to them all these years. It is very important that we understand this and always stay connected to our roots.
