The Greater Good
The Greater Good
With tirades of cascading sand dunes ahead, as far as the eyes could see, one can easily think of giving up . This although was not to be done with Rahat , a well built lad in his twenties , who was travelling the vast swarms of searing sands of the desert , in the quest of finding a water reservoir for his people back home in the holy city of Karbala.
He was preceding his father , who along with a few men , used to travel the colossal of the deserts of Baghdad, to bring to the people , a sweet news of a water source nearby , upon which they would move their white washed makeshift tents , solely trusting the mere utterances of those men .
It seems almost surreal , as to how people could move their abodes , purely on the reliance of the words mouthed by a few men , strangers to some , as if they are oracles from the God above !
Anyways , our Rahat here , was trudging through the desert, in the scorching heat of the mid afternoon sun , in the hope of unearthing a little spring finding its way, through the coarse land beneath , or an ambitious aquifer , but what only could be seen in the expanse were fading but tall sand dunes , which were looking upon him with mockery and mockery only .
Famished, he sat to pause in the silhouette of a tall sand dune , and quenched his thirst from his leather water bag . Nothing but unending mounds of sand could be seen in his farthest vision .
The heat had got him , as he had been travelling for about a week now. He sat there thinking to himself , “ All this torment , and that too for what ? “ . Destitution gets to the best of us. He could have easily traveled a couple of miles , and could have gone back to his people, rendering the deserts barren of any water , who would not have questioned him anyways. Albeit he thought to himself that ,all these hindrances were solely, for the greater cause and a greater good .
So he picked himself up , and pursued his voyage , in the guise of a pilgrimage , for indeed he was on one , as he was maiming his own self to carry out the pious task of bringing water to his people. And solely for the greater good .
