The Day Life Stood Still

The chirping birds stirred me from my sleep just as the sun peeped from the clouds on the horizon.

Ah! Another day. So much to do.

I went about my daily chores with the usual banter of words with my spouse, triggered by some happenings during the morning.

The hot exchange of words filled my heart with fear that the neighbors would hear, and we would be blacklisted by our condominium folks.

As the voices grew louder and insults were traded, hatred for him grew stronger and stronger. The only weapon I had were words with which I could defend myself.

I left the room only to be followed and threatened that “I will hound you”, “I will see you”, “I will pull you out of your grave”.

Confounded and totally confused, my heart beat wildly. I looked around for help. I prayed to my dead parents. I looked for a friend…….

What’s App messages were sent to the only friend I have. It was an SOS for help. But no answer. Whom should I call? Who will listen to my plea? I even sent a message to an acquaintance who reads the Tarot. She asked me to call at 12 noon. But could I wait that long? It was almost 11 AM now.

Suddenly, something snapped inside. Something broke. I felt desolate, alone and very very sad.

I knew I would not be missed and whatever I did, I would always be painted black. So why wait? I remembered those little orange friends by my bedside and was sure that they would help me escape pain and agony forever.

Sitting on my bed, I opened the packs one by one and four score is how far I could go . That should do the deed. No more tomorrow……

Bye bye pain and bye bye everyone.

I started reading my book and that was the day when life stood still.
