The Coffin!

It was the memories of my former days that haunted me. Those days when I couldn't get out of my own mess, that one day my work got the best out of me. I was buried alive! Inside a coffin!

As I dug my grave I could sense a chill down my spines, I always had claustrophobia. I started seeing myself inside the coffin, gasping for air. Running against time-fighting for my life. Crying loud only to be heard by none. It was a nightmare I was about to accept. And the worst death I could have ever imagined.

However, my destiny had different plans for me that fateful day. A miracle, which I never understood, took place. I escaped my captors and my death. How? It was a question that I tried to forget and I buried it deep inside me, and people dared not ask me the events of that day.

After so many years of going to rehabilitation centers, getting myself seen by doctors. And lots of love and support from friends and family and dear ones, I could finally recover both mentally and physically from that incident. After much struggle in my head, I had sealed off every memory of the day. Changed my direction in life. Came back to what people believed is the 'right path'. I was free. Reborn.!

Today is a very special day for me. It is my wedding. Today I tie the knot and say my vows to my love with whom I wanted to spend eternity. She has always been there for me for a very long time and throughout my struggles. We were together since high-school. An exemplary couple with the perfect and longest history. I selected the venue and the date. I had selected a small hill.

Overlooking the roads coming to us, and the green trees welcoming the visitors. It was the 13th of February, my birthday. Unlucky number! Some murmured. I wanted it to be so. Three stages of life. Birth, marriage, and death. I did not choose the time of my birth nor I could choose my time of death but I could choose the date of my wedding. And this morning thought of that day flicked. After all these years. Why did I remember today.? But I got busy again and forgot all about it. And alas the wedding came to the past.

The long awaited dream had come to pass. The sun had half set. It was getting cold. I could feel some raindrops touching my face. The air was thin and cool. I stood there with my new bride. Talking to some guests that still remained. And wishing safe travels to those who had come from afar. As the last few were leaving. Someone bought me a collection of photos of the day. As I scrolled through the pages. I saw an odd picture of me and my wife. Her wedding gown looked dirty and yellowish. I asked for the person who bought me the picture. I could not find him. I was alone looking down at the guests, leaving.

Then I looked again at the picture. I saw a wooden fence behind us in the picture. It seemed so familiar to me. I took a closer look. And it struck me so hard. My past had not exited my life. It was the same wood with the same cracks that my coffin had on that day. Everything started spinning. I could not understand what was happening. I dropped unconscious.

When I woke up. I found myself in a cold, wet and dark place, it was the coffin.!
