Stranger For A Night

Stranger For A Night

I wish I had never met him. I was forced into marrying him by my family. One morning I decided to leave him forever and begin a new life far away from home. I took my savings and dresses, which were my wedding presents, and silently slipped outside to the unending night.

There was only one place where I could find some solitude-my grandmother's house in the outskirts of the city. My grandmother died last year leaving behind her home and sweet memories to me. I walked the whole night and reached there in the wee hours of the morning. My legs were shaking by the time I reached there and last thing I remember was falling into the big sturdy arms of a stranger.

I woke up the next day and found myself pinned to my grandma's bed by a large hand enveloping me from behind. At first, I wanted to scream, but I realised that his hold was gentle, it made me relax, but at the same time I slowly tried to wriggle my way out of his hold. Suddenly I knew that he was awake as he again held me tightly against his chest. I could feel his warmth enveloping me, which made me feel protected. I stopped struggling and instead relaxed. I slowly drifted to sleep again even though my mind was telling me not to.

The next time I woke up I was all alone in the room. I peeped out of the window and found a guy lounging near the front gate and I knew it was him. He turned around as if he could sense me and I hid behind the curtains and that's when I suddenly noticed the table laden with breakfast. I couldn't understand why a stranger would go to these lengths for me. I was becoming more and more scared of him and his intentions. I now regretted my decision to come here alone.

The door opened slowly and I knew it was him. My heart started racing so fast that I couldn't breathe. He was advancing towards me with something hidden in his hand. I looked everywhere around, but there was no way to escape. He was coming closer and closer and finally stopped. I was relieved for a second when all of a sudden he raised his hidden hand and I cowered..waited, but nothing happened. The next moment I opened my eyes I saw him on his knees with a rose in his hand. He was smiling at me and begging for my forgiveness as he had forgotten our wedding anniversary.
