Recently I had written a blog India of my Dreams, in which I had mentioned a few problem areas prevailing in our country and how I wish for a better India. It was a very basic write up from my side as a citizen of this country, there are few things which pinch me, out of which Education facility, employment opportunities, and Human trafficking are the issue which we discuss a lot. Today I am going to elaborate about Human Trafficking and how it is killing dreams of thousands of people being a victim of this heinous crime. Human trafficking is the third largest organized crime after drugs and the arms trade across the globe.

Some facts and figures:

There are approximately 20 to 30 million slaves in the world today. According to the U.S. State Department, 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders every year, of which 80% are female and half are children. The average age a teen enters the sex trade in the U.S. is 12 to 14-year-old. Pakistan, Thailand, China, India, and Bangladesh are in the top 10 countries with the largest number of trafficking victims around the world. India is at the top of the list with 14 million victims.

According to the Report, the most common form of human trafficking (79%) is sexual exploitation. The victims of sexual exploitation are predominantly women and girls. Surprisingly, in 30% of the countries which provided information on the gender of traffickers, women make up the largest proportion of traffickers.

Target is mostly kids and young women, they are lured for a better life, education, work and sold in faraway states of India for sexual exploitation and to work as bonded labour by the agents. These Agents do not send the kids to school but sell them to work as domestic servants, beggars etc. Whereas girls are trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation. These girls are even forced to marry in certain regions where female to male sex ratio is highly disturbed. Children from tribal areas are at greater risk of human trafficking.

Human Trafficking is a serious crime and a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women, and children fall into the hands of traffickers all over the world. Almost every country in the world is affected by trafficking. The purpose of this crime is to trade people for forced labour, commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others, Debt Bondage, Involuntary Domestic Servitude, or Sex Trafficking and Prostitution.

The Root Cause of Human Trafficking is the "Traffickers” The Ill-minded, crabby and grouchy people involved in it there is no justification or no reason supportive enough for this horrific, shameful and outrageous crime. It is said that social inequality, regional gender preference, Education imbalance, immigration policy, environmental conditions, fractured families, and a lack of good job opportunities and corruption are the leading causes of human trafficking in India. But I feel it is also the mindset of the person or the criminal involved in it, the mental conditioning due to all the mentioned factors above entails a long term perpetuation of mankind.

We are the present and what we have in our hands is the future of our nation, the kind of upbringing we give to our kids as parents, the kind of atmosphere we are breathing in and incidents which goes unreported, problems which are left unaddressed gives only rise to these kinds of problems.

Be careful, watch out, keep your eyes open, report anything unusual.

Do not hesitate to question when you sense suspicion, be alert and be responsible.

Take care. Be Aware.
