In the bright town of Austin, Texas lived a boy named Gerald. He couldn't stand up for himself and always walked away sullen if anyone hurt him or his feelings. He never stood up for himself, and bullies thought he was a good toy to play with , and he sure was since he never uttered a single word much less a complaint. Gerald got bullied a lot more than the average middle schooler should because he was well a ' Science Geek '.

Everyday was a like war for Gerald, he had to dodge past invading attackers and slid past meaty bullies. Everyday the first 2 periods were science, and the moment Gerald stepped into science class he went on a rampage. He is a quit kid outside science but in science class you wouldn't be able to tell. Every single question the teacher asked Gerald would already have his hand up ready to answer. Most of his classmates didn't know the answers to most of the questions so Gerald basically got to speak every time. He answered more than he was supposed to blabbering on and on about the topic until the teacher put his fingers in his ears and screamed " STOP ". Then Gerald sealed his mouth and waited for the next question.

After the science class he wasn't a fraction as active, basically gone. After science a frown always masked his face while he slogged through the rest of the classes. At lunch he sticks his nose into a book and reads the whole time, it is a science book of course. In the same fashion he slogs through the rest of his classes after lunch as if someone has given him a sleeping pill. However, during PE class things get exciting, it is the bullies time to shine.

The strong and tall bullies cream poor Gerald, throwing 100 mile baseballs straight at him and chucking dodgeballs at his head. Causing him to throw his hands up into the air screaming frantically for help. Once class is over he gets insulted about a 1000 times and leaves school drenched in sweat.

He walks home and flops onto his bed and takes a nap, then he studies more science and hits the hay. He went to school each day and came back the same way until something unfortunate happened. One day when he went to school they had a whole school assembly, Gerald had a frown stuck on his face like always. The principal announced that the science teacher was leaving and would not come back, then to add on to this he said science classes will be stopped until a new science teacher comes which would take around 2 weeks. Everyone was whooping in joy. But Gerald was devastated his favourite subject, his joy just slipped out of his hands like a slimy fish. Little did he know that good was to come.

The next 2 weeks were miserable the worst days of his life. Even the days were he came home with shoes on his head couldn't hold a torch to these days. Until a fortnight later when his new science teacher came he was the best science teacher Gerald ever had. He encouraged him and pushed him to learn more teaching him loads of information each day. During all of this the rest of the class just started at them, no one else spoke a single word. Days passed and Gerald learnt more and more until 1 day his science teacher came t o him running. He had a large smile on his face and told him he had got selected for the national science competition. Gerald was euphoric and worked relentlessly and on the day of the competition it paid off. He came first!

Once he came back to school they had an assembly in his honour and the principal said " Anyone who is rude / mean to Gerald will have to face me ". While walking out a bully uttered something rude but his burly friend whispered " He is a special boy now leave him alone ". They left him alone for a long long time.

Gerald might not have friend but that is not what he cared about it was science and he was happy and never dared to leave his safe bubble. He overcame his challenge of constantly getting bullied through sheer passion for science!
