"Sara, stop pulling my pigtails or else..." This regular confrontation was enough for my mom to make us sit apart and give me some kitchen work whereas a drawing book to Sara. When I turned 12, I was sent for errands to the grocery store. The joy was my bicycle ride and little Sara as ride pillion. Mom would always give a caution to Sara, " be careful. I don't want to see you hurt." At the same time there would be a warning for me, "Need I to say she is your little sister?"

Evenings were always bright since Pa would look for none other but his Nancy (that's me). My regular wait at the door and his handing over his bag was more like a ritual. The joy of having a smile on his face while giving a glass of water would compensate the whole day's attention that Sara had gathered from my mom and others. "Come on bring your lessons", was his care for us. Preparing Sara's favourite pudding was mom's favourite hobby and convincing me that I too like it was her herculean task. It was my Pa who would bring my favourite biscuits and fetch all my love, care and attention towards him.

Today as a grown up my gratitude towards my parents sees no bounds. How conveniently my mom took the responsibility of making me responsible for my life and Pa could make me understand that love, care and concern are equally important in a family. Love you Pa and Ma for making Sara and me strong women of our family.
