MY VACATION BEFORE COVID...

An interesting place I visited  years back, a vacation of mine was quite interesting.

My parents had planned to show us all the places in and around our native district. We hail from north Karnataka, Gadag. Gadag is a small town, now district which has its own mythological importance.The place which my parents planned to visit was " Lakkundi". Hearing the name itself myself and my brother shocked and were depressed as it would not be interesting one to visit. We were cheered by my dad and were told that this place would thrill us. We started our journey morning 11 o'clock after our breakfast at our grandparent’s house. It took half an hour to reach. Lakkundi is located at a distance of 11 Km South-East of Gadag district. My father started narrating the history of that place which made us excited to see and also feel proud to be a Kannadiga belonging to this place. Reaching the place, we were thrilled to see it.

Lakkundi is a paradise of temples. As per the inscriptions, Lakkundi is also called as "Lokki Gundi" in the inscription, which was a prominent city a thousand year back. Lakkundi is a place of antiquarian interest, with more than 50 ancient temples scattered throughout the village. 101 stepped well which are also called as ' kalyani' and many inscription that are built during the rule of the Chalukyas, Kalachuris, Seuna, and Hoysalas. Kasi Vishwanath temple is the most ornate and elaborately furnished. Lakkundi is also an important 'Jain center'. There is a jain temple dedicated to Mahavira, the largest and ancient shrines at Lakkundi. Lakkundi is also noted for its steep wells, artistically built with small, canopies riches inside the walls of several wells that enshrine long as. The other attractions of Lakkundi is the sculpture, Gallery operated by the Archaeological Survey of India. So Lakkundi is a must visit destination for a traveler who is interested in Archaeology. After seeing this place our view of this place changed and found it to a most interesting one. This place represents our culture, tradition, our kings who ruled and more about history which is interesting. Myself and my brother thanked my parents to choose this place to visit.
