Once upon a time there was a very learned Guru. Two children were living along with him in his gurukul.

These two children used to wake up early in the morning. They dedicatedly followed their guru's teachings. They used to clean the ashram daily in the morning, and used to sleep only after their guru have slept.

After 12 years, the guru told them that he will take a test to see if both of them have understood what he have taught or not. If they have, they can go back to their home.

Both of them were puzzled as to what the guru will ask in the test and as such they were studying the notes that they have made.

Next day, early in the morning the guru called both of them and asked them to kill the bird that the guru gave them. He also instructed them that this should happen when no one is watching them. If they successfully finish the task, they can go to their respective homes.

Both the students were thinking what  what they should do in order to accomplish the task which the guru assigned.

One student went inside the cave and killed the bird and was very happy that he successfully completed the task which the guru gave.

The second student who couldn't complete the task was very disappointed.

They both went to the guru. One disciple handed over the bird which the guru gave. Another said that he have completed the task.

The one who killed the bird asked if he could return to his hometown. He said he successfully completed the task.

The second student started crying and said that he couldn't complete the task. The guru asked him the reason ; why you couldn't complete the task ?

The child answered that it was his inner conscience which stopped him from harming the bird. Also, he was afraid that someone might watch him doing this heinous task. As such, he couldn't complete the task.

Now the guru asked him that nobody was watching him inside the cave. But the boy replied that the inner-conscience stopped him, because he felt that he is harming the bird. The guru asked him to return to his home as he could sucessfully imbibe what was taught.

Then the other student said that he was following the order of his guru and it his duty to follow what his guru is saying. Then the guru said that it is very important to know what is right or wrong. Following guru's order is right but if someone is asking you to do something wrong, you should politely ask that person why he is asking him to do so. Also, the guru asked him to stay for another month probably / till he fully understands what was taught.
