GOSSIP MONGERS

Susan whispered into my ears 'did you know she

is dating the boss and according to the grapevine, he will be divorcing his wife of ten years?'

This seemed strange to me. In my judgment, the boss appeared clean and I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of character.

I knew Mr. Das to be a devoted family man very attached to his wife and kids, yet it worried me to no end. What if Susan was correct. A family would break up and Mr. Das's name smeared along with Nandini's. Nandini was the receptionist and remained pretty much to herself and knowing her background, there could be a grain of truth in what Susan was saying. Working in the HR department, I was privy to profiles of staff and no one except I knew Nandini was a divorcee.

One day I casually mentioned to Nandini what were her plans for the weekend and asked if she would like to accompany me to the Bookfair. She seemed keen and delighted with the suggestion. And then hesitantly I asked, "Nandini I've heard some rumors floating around about you and Debashis...has it reached your ears?" Her face went pink, red, and purple looking shocked and indignant..." what nonsense is going on...this is character assassination and I will take it up with the senior management".

My fears were put to rest. The gossip mongers were taking spite of Nandini as she kept to herself.
