Accident! Accident!

Dalbeer was lying on the hospital bed. Tear flooded from the eyes of Deepika, his wife.

‘She is a witch’, Grumbled her mother-in-law frowning her face. ‘She is the cellar behind the accident.’

“You are correct, mom. How could the accident have occurred within a week of marriage? Surely, she was going to kill my brother… witch…. Pooh…” joined her sister-in-law.

“She is a vampire.” Father- in -law yelled. “Oh, God! Save my son from this wicked lady.”

Am I a witch? Deepika looked heavenwards silently pleading to grin and bear it. Don’t I love my husband? Oh…no….. I cannot just live without him. He is my all… my life. Alas, Could I be able to explain this to my in-laws!

She squeezed herself to the corner of a sofa in her bedroom. ‘How can I be the culprit?’ She moaned. ‘Did I insist the truck driver to collide head on with Dalbeer as he drove? I wanted him to stay with me the day long. No wife would want to be separated from her husband just after marriage, neither did I. It is these people who forced him to go out….’

She wept and wept …. , Lied on bed hours long… Couldn’t sleep. She smelt the odour of Dalbeer’s body on the bed sheet. She smelt and smelt.

How I wanted Dalbeer to be with me at this moment! She thought without caring for her cluttered saree, blouse and hair. He is in the hospital but I’m not allowed to even visit him as if I’m really a monster. Without you what is the value of this sparkling diamond ring… this 24-carate necklace… worthless- she recollected her romantic moments.

‘I love you Dalbeer.’ Deepika soliloquized. ‘ I love you more than my life. Yes I am the culprit….I am a vampire … I’m sinister in your life… If all are saying the same way how can it be false. .. I cannot be a hurdle on your path of life… I’ve to die… Dalbeer please forgive me… I’ve to die… I’ve to die… so that you can recover soon and maintain a happy life with your family members. Good bye Dalbeer… Good bye…’ She took a handful of chloroquine tablets and slipped away from her house to kill herself.

A Rally on the road.

Slogan: Women abuse – Stop… stop.

Mothers and sisters- come forward… come forward.

Fight for yourself – Don’t be a coward… don’t be coward.

Suddenly the tablets in her hand fell down. She came back home. Now there was a glaze in her face. Her in-laws were astonished. What a change!

‘Surely, I’m going to lodge a complaint against all of you with the women commission.’

Nobody dared to say a word.

After 6 months Dalbeer recovered.

‘What’s this, Deepika? Glum face… slipshod body… Can I see you in despair?’

‘Oh, Dalbeer. Do know, I’m the happiest woman now.’
