It’s been a mystery since the start of this year whether we are safe at home or we’re caged in it. The lockdown is actually a tragedy that has happened in the life of every living being in the entire world. It has stopped us from all the entertainment and people have eventually started living virtual life. To no one’s surprise, a deadly virus, causing the severe acute respiratory syndrome, COVID-19, is the culprit. Covid-19 also known as coronavirus, has badly affected us and has massively killed about 7,71,635 people in the world to date according to the World Health Organization. People are extremely feared by seeing the rapid increase in the death rate due to corona. It has had a great impact on the environment and has adversely affected the society. But, with negative impacts on the peak, there are also positive impacts that are to be considered.
Since the corona itself is positive, let us too begin positively. Have you wondered, why the air is felt fresh nowadays? It’s by all means known to us that the government of each affected country has locked the whole country to contain the virus. Owing to this, the quality of air has improved or we could simply say, that, ‘coronavirus has cured the climate’. The lockdown and relatively coronavirus has actually opened up a way for all mankind to realize how beautiful it’s now to live in a fresh atmosphere rather than being surrounded by polluted air. Before the start of the pandemic, the air around us had been deemed toxic to breathe in due to the number of greenhouse gases that had been emitted over the centuries. The reason behind this is undoubtedly us because it was we who used to drive vehicles for long hours and it was we who used to release chemicals and toxic gases into the open air as a waste product in industries along with the burning of fossil fuels, deforestation, and farming. Since there is less use of vehicles, noise pollution has also decreased. Covid-19 has perhaps helped us to realize our mistake but one thing to note is that neither the lockdown nor the virus is permanent. So, even the climate at present, is just temporary unless we continue to be the same even after everything becomes normal; which is impossible!
Even being in lockdown, there has been no visible decline in COVID-19 cases because people are moving out for buying essentials, some are even going to work and some roam around just for pleasure. So what would ensure us that, the virus doesn’t affect those who go out and it would not spread to others? For this reason, the government has adopted social distancing measures. Social distancing along with lockdown has worked wonders and has actually reduced the number of Covid-19 cases in some states and countries. As a result of social distancing, we could witness clean beaches and clear water bodies which were earlier in the worst condition because of human activities. The coronavirus pandemic has also enhanced spirituality towards God in us and has embedded faith in our mind for him. People are able to spend quality time with their family and enjoy meals together.
Covid-19 may have good impacts but, the world will definitely have something negative to say about it; and that’s life. Covid-19 has taken away a lot of lives and has also taken away many
aspects needed to live a better life from us; one of which is employment. Loss of employment is actually the immediate cause of the Covid-19 crisis. Companies were unable to pay salaries to a lot of employees; so they were forced to dismiss them. Due to lockdown, from schools to offices, every work is done from home. So in some cases, income has been cut to half and in some, the employment itself has been taken away. In such a situation, finding another job that too sitting at home is tough for the unwaged. Due to this, the global economy has also shrunk. Unemployment and low income along with a decline in tourism have led to the depletion of the global economy. Coronavirus could trim global economic growth by 3.0% to 6.0% in 2020 with a partial recovery in 2021, assuming that there will be no second wave of the virus. This is actually a great threat to human capital worldwide.
People are facing serious health issues both physically and mentally due to the threat in this situation. In this Covid-19 pandemic, people are trapped in one place without being able to meet their friends and not be able to share their emotions. This increases stress and results in a high level of anxiety. There are actually different notions of different people on stress during this hard situation. Work from home and online classes seem to be comfortable in the short run but as the lockdown still continues to be, people begin to be lazy which makes them inactive and affects their health and some feel extremely stressed. Sometimes people fall in the trap of depression due to unemployment and low wages.
Covid-19 has actually vanished a part of the world’s population. Many people and animals have been left homeless and many have been starving since the start of this pandemic. Hearing the news of an increasing rise in death has actually created a great sense of disturbance deep inside us. Though being at home, we are still feared by getting the virus. The only hope we could have is on the almighty God. Having faith in him will definitely free us from all dangers. What else could we do other than relying on someone for help in this situation? After all, our intention is returning to that normal life prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. So I would like to conclude by saying, “Worry ends when faith in God begins.” And those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
