Can We Be Friends?

She waited at the edge of the street...The sun was wrapping up for the day. She pretended she wasn't waiting, though her eyes were full of anticipation. Finally, she heard the bicycle roll past her. She tried to catch a glance with the edge of her eye. Though the view of him lasted for hardly a second, it was worth the wait. Then only she knew that she could head back home.

She had realized that she loved him two years ago. These glances were a daily routine now, but she wondered whether he had caught the air of it. "No, obviously not!", she told herself. Such things leak out only if you have friends.

The next day, when she reached college, she saw a girl with a rose looking him in the eye. He did what he did always - Looked like he wasn't interested at all. Seeing that two other girls started jumping with delight. "Nothing special", she thought.

After the second period, the fancy girl group of the class came up to her. Their leader pierced her with her gaze and she said, "You dare not look at him once more." They took her out started calling her things in the corridor. Literally, everybody was there. When the drama was over, she walked back into the class, each tear a proof of her agony. "I shall not step back since I am not wrong. Do I not have a right to like someone?", reassuring herself.

Her persistence was harder than rock. As she was walking down the street in the evening, she decided to take a break from her routine. She was broken. Suddenly someone appeared in front of him, and she stopped. It was him, she just knew. He said, "I feel sorry for what happened today, I don't know what happened between you all, but I just know she is a witch. Anyways, can we be friends?"
