I stared at my friend in utter shock and astonishment. I could not believe my ears after what she had just said. I was trying so hard to comprehend the words which she just blurted out. Had she given up on our friendship like it was nothing? Or was it an obligation to be my friend since our mothers were also childhood friends? Did she just use me? Or was this a joke? I really hope that this would be a joke.

Looks like it wasn't. So, this is what betrayal feels like? These questions were going on and on in my head making me dizzy and feel overwhelmed.

Let me tell you from the start… It was the first day of the new session. My friend, Sakura and I were walking down the halls of our school. We were childhood friends and always supported each other We had known each other for like 6 years. In our school, we could wear anything we want. I was wearing black jeans and a white-colored hoodie since it was a bit chilly outside. My friend, Sakura, was wearing a black skirt with warm skin colored- stockings, a white crop top and a blue denim jacket. When we were walking down the halls, a bevy of girls started humiliating me about my choice of clothes and started calling me out. Then, the leader of their group came and started complimenting Sakura on how good her fashion choice is and how she should be ashamed of herself for being friends with someone who has absolutely no sense of ‘today’s’ fashion.

Sakura glanced at me but I looked down feeling humiliated. My gut feeling told me that Sakura was going to stand up for me. But the words which flew out of her mouth left me shell- shocked. She said that she did not even know me and I was just walking beside her and I was a complete stranger to her. At that moment I realized that I made friends with the wrong person. A person who would lie, cheat and betray me to gain popularity. I smiled feebly at myself for my stupidity and foolishness.

After that incident, I learnt something really important: Choose people who are worthy of your time, trust and love.
