Best Friend

“Please, please talk to him for once, for my sake”, he kept pleading to Asha.

Dev desperately wanted Asha and Raj to patch up and be together again. In six months of their relationship, they had got one thing but in common; Dev.

‘Friendship first’ decided Dev when he realised that his heart skipped a beat for Asha! And so here he was trying to cover up once more for Raj’s rude ways. And it worked for one more time and they were together again leaving Dev’s feelings for her untold, unexpressed buried deep underneath his friendship.

“Did he come?”

She nodded in negative and the tears held back till now, rolled down her cheeks. 

“I gave her the tablet. She wanted a peaceful death. She’s free of her pain now.” Seventeen-year-old Asha confessed as they sat by her mother’s mortal remains. 

Dev waited for Raj but in vain. Where was he when he was needed here the most?

“It’s futile Dev, he cares only for himself.” 

Grieved by her state his emotions found themselves helpless. 

A couple of minutes of dilemma and suddenly he held her hand in front of everyone and to his surprise, she too rested her head on his shoulders. As if she had found her peace. It was meant to be this way; Her best friend was meant to be her love forever!
