I sat slumped in the chair. Numbness had taken over my soul. Staring at the wall, I did not know what to make of this sudden but anticipated turn of events.

Then I heard the sound of soft footsteps which seemed to cease in the doorway. Slowly I turned around. You stood there in all your glory. The ghost of a smile etched on your face. Neither of us made a move towards the other, no words were spoken, only silence prevailed. Your eyes were unreadable and your stance guarded. It was as if time had stopped and all the air had been sucked out of the room. Then slowly you turned and walked away. I stood there staring at your back until you vanished from my periphery.

Thinking about you now, I do not get that gut-wrenching feeling. You walking away was not my fault. I have come to realize that now. You were my friend. You were supposed to have my back. But I guess that was just a disfigured notion I had harboured in my brain for far too long because feelings always cloud your judgement. Well you made me realize that for you to trust someone, they must first make efforts to earn that. And I am really grateful to you for teaching me that.
