A Glimpse Of The Past

A Glimpse Of The Past

I stood in the rain today. Eyes up in the sky, blinking as the small and tender drops graze my eyelashes, I inhaled the smell of the drizzle and I was pulled into the past. The smell lasted for a second but drowned me with a decade of memories.

I blinked my eyes repeatedly trying to take a glance at the grey clouds amidst the rain, with long and frequent breaths desperately wishing for the same smell to carry me into the past, just one more time.

My hair was let loose, the yellow-brown tee and the black cargo trousers quenched the haphazard rain that soaked me, and I stood stilted in the growing dark for just a glimpse of my past. I tilted my head to the right and I saw our place, where we frequently sat, my best friend and I.

I found myself on the night of Diwali. The terrace was dark except for the surrounding multicolored lights. The night engulfed the lights, turning it into a day. She wore a beautiful turquoise tank top contrasting it with my plain red top and matching it with the single pair of black jeans that each of us owned. We carefully climbed up the fragile ladder to reach the highest point, to our place. We sat there swinging our legs and inhaling the polluted air, the cold breeze gently brushing through our long hairs and making me cling onto my full-sleeved top.

We were lost with our endless conversation about the past experiences, the upcoming future when at one moment I looked left and pointed to the fireworks. They whizzed, floated, spiraled as they unfolded their vibrant feathers and burst about a hundred meters from our left, shimmering and dazzling its red, blue, violet and yellow colors. We gazed and gazed letting it mesmerize our soul. "'Wow'' is the only word she could gasp out and I just smiled looking at the fading colors. I knew at that moment that it was the present that I will always remember because it was the most beautiful of all my moments.

Present. Do we let it slide?!
