Yesterday, And Beyond
Yesterday, And Beyond
This is a personal poem on themes
I believe many of us share. If this is true
Does it become a shared poem? Interested?
Let’s start at the very beginning, or the end
Not sure which is which and when is when
Let us discuss, yesterday; it’s a far safer topic
Then the future. That’s looking grimmer and grimmer
Every passing day. Memory casts a sepia-toned veil
Over things which have been. Did we really try our best?
Could we have done this or that; danced naked in the rain
Surrendered to our primal passions; does it make any difference?
A thing done is a thing done; an experience experienced.
Today’s a fleeting moment, filled with half promises, hopes
And disappointments; hustling and bustling for attention
For a moment of your time; balanced somewhere between
Dreams, ambitions as yet unfulfilled and the “why did I do that?”
Time passed. There we are, on a tightrope, blindfolded
Trying to advance, held back by regrets, unanswered questions
Attempting to retain the ragged remains of a working brain
How do we do it? I don’t know. I’m just hoping it won’t rain.
