Woman
Woman
I am a woman of today,
My flame burns away,
Lit with the thoughts of tomorrow,
Even in the times of sorrow.
You can trap me,
snap me,
But I will flee,
And above the moon, I will soar,
Always aiming for more.
I will dust off my critics,
Even when I am my only fan,
I will drown out the voices,
in the shower of choices.
I refuse to carry the weight of my fate,
Prepared to start with a clean slate,
Every time my goals are not checkmate.
I decide to run,
Even when all I have ever heard is,
Good things happen to women, who wait.
The differences in biology,
Are too much for me to notice,
It strengthens me to know,
That a soul I can grow,
But, your body runs free as a flow,
And you judge us for a belly that shows!
And you will reserve places to hire us,
Although, when it’s time for a snack,
You will slam us with a knack,
Painting our merit in the deepest color of black.
But, there will be some of you,
Who will dazzle us with your belief,
And generosity,
Shining a spotlight on us,
When we need it the most.
I am glad to be born as a woman,
Even when I am a tiny bit jealous,
I embrace all the curves of life,
Even when some of them are on my body,
For I have a long way to go,
And resilience makes me glow!
