We Are The World

I came into this world with a beautiful smile,

I could barely see anything,

But I knew my family was not

Happy with the child.

I wondered about my faults

Over the course of time,

An finally, I realised that

Being a girl was my only crime.

Yes, I did like playing and dancing

Like the others,

But unfortunately the narrow thinking of the society,

Always gave me some disturbing wonders.

I wanted to learn and build my own dream,

But I never got an opportunity to prove my self esteem

I know, now the world is different than it was

I would thank all those who worked for this good cause.

I have now reached the moon

And I work equally with the men,

Today I am not known as somebody's wife or mother

But for the person I am.

I kept my tears and fears aside,

To ring the bells of my success worldwide.
