The Trapped Bird in a Cage

                 Today I’m here because of a sordid betrayal-an unforgivable act of man!

                 Trusting him as a true friend, I did not see through his deplorable evil plan.

                 I was starving, and the golden grains he scattered, which I in good faith ate,

                  He then flung on me the reprehensible mesh -- this is how I sealed my fate!

                  I am panicking: perhaps I’ll never be able to come out of this iron prison.

                  For a few coins to snatch away my freedom can’t be a justifiable reason!

                  I long to be with my little hungry chicks, waiting helplessly for their feed,

                  I can almost hear them chirping raucously for their wriggly worm or seed.

                   I long to stretch my cramped up wings, and into the blue sky lithely fly,

                   I long to feel the breeze against my breast and fly into the arms of the sky,

                   To hop about on the soft green grass and revel freely in the embracing sun;

                   To bathe in the spurting water and splash about in the frothing fountain.

                   Who will break these iron bars for me? My chicks will die of hunger,

                   Their little bodies will turn into bones, calling hoarse for their mother,

                   To earn a few soiled grimy notes will you let my helpless babies die?

                    Your life will be full of remorse, for night and day, you’ll hear them cry!
