The Proposal
The Proposal
Outside a shopping mall, we sat on a bench
One which is rusty and old
But witnessed several stories untold
Mine was going to unfold
As he took my hand and looked into my eyes
Shall I run away
Or trust his grip?
Now or never it seemed
I didn't move but gazed his eyes
For eyes speak your heart both in truth and lie
His lips made a move and I could no longer hear
The rushing crowd of the busy street
He whispered my favorite song more like an old poem
"You say it best when you say nothing at all"
I saw my reflection on his eyes
Just as you see your image on a placid lake
Unwavering and beautiful in all the ways
Now or never it seemed
And I decided to stay with him
Rusty and old but
The bench knows it all.
