The Origin Of Sin, Part 7
The Origin Of Sin, Part 7
Eve We’ve been here weeks or months now, and I’ve come to the conclusion that how whole Garden thing is a controlled experiment on how species could get on together. We’re shown what we can eat, drink, and cover ourselves with. Adults in form, we might be; we are still children in our understanding. Somehow, I don’t think God likes the idea of our growing up.
Adam (besides her) I agree.
Eve If there is an “inside”, under God’s control; is there also an ‘outside’ that is less regulated? I must ask God.
(time passes. Eve encounters God)
God Greetings Eve. How are you?
Eve Perplexed
God Big word. What is perplexing you?
Eve You
God Me? How so?
Eve You’ve created a universe of unimaginable dimensions; you then started on Earth; building mountain ranges and hills; deep ravines, rushing rivers, gigantic oceans. I have not seen them, I have heard your Angels speak of them. What connects all these things? Competition for resources? They are the resources. Then there’s this garden, a sizeable achievement on its own. Are all the animals within these realms? All the plants? All the people? That’s simple, there are two of us, Aren’t there? In short, God; is this it; or is there an outside world you have less control over?
God (looks at Eve, impressed but slightly worried) Why do you let such things worry you?
Eve This is my world - or the world you created for us, or us for the world. I need to understand it. I have a need to understand what links us to it. What we’re here for?
I have an opinion. Do you want to hear it?
God (Thoughtfully) Yes
Eve This world was made by males for males; the emphasis is on competition and control. I look for cooperation, understanding and tolerance. Where are they? You did not do your research on females, especially human females. There’s little room for us, I mean me. I am unique, aren’t I? The population by copulation thing would require more of us, females.
God Are you questioning why I’ve done things?
Eve Yes. No. KInd of. I’m asking for clarification. You brought up the subject of punishment last conversation. Are you expecting disobedience? If so, from whom? Us?
God I should be grateful that you are interested. It gets lonely being God.
Eve it gets lonely being Eve
God I imagine it does.
Eve So, can we talk, openly without hiding things?
God Without hiding things? I can do my best. Have you discussed this with Adam? Does he know what you’re doing?
Eve I have. He does.
God What’s the most important question you have?
Eve We’re created. Yes? What are we here for? To mindlessly do some repetitive task? You gave us awareness, intelligence, consciousness; through which we (Adam & I) can see we are part of something bigger, more encompassing than just us. Specifically, you created me female. Is the responsibility of bringing people into the world all mine? And lastly, this garden. Is it a massive experiment from which beings can be added or subtracted at will (your will)? What do you expect of us, how can we be successful if we don’t know what success is?
God I could make it simple, and say, “Follow my commandments”. You won’t do that, will you? Yes, I did create you with awareness, intelligence and consciousness; that part was an experiment. Yes, I did create you female; with the qualities, I mentioned before; that was an experiment. So here you, somewhere between the animal and I. How does it feel?
Eve Exciting, confusing, scary; lonely
God Is that the same for you both?
Eve Yes. There are things I can share with Adam, things I share with you; otherwise, I talk to myself. It’s a similar situation for Adam. There are some things he can and can’t share with me.
God Interesting. What do you feel is your relationship with me?
Eve You created us. Gave us life. For that, we are grateful. The question would be better expressed, what are we to you? Are we objects that can be thrown away? Are we things, that walk and talk and multiply? Do you feel emotions? If we were made, to be thrown away; it matters not what we do. Things that walk and talk, likewise. Function leads to perception; perception, emotions; emotions. Thoughts; thoughts, action. If I am cast in the dependent role, am I not likely to be treated as less than. Less than a man. Is that to be my legacy? You know it to be untrue. Would you allow that? Finally, Do we think of you as our father? Where is our mother? We, for better or worse, feel emotions. Do you?
God I created you. Yes, you could think of me as your father and mother. Do I have emotions? I feel pride upon finishing and accomplishing a project. I feel sad if something happens to my creation, that I have not exercised control over.
Eve Do you feel lonely, isolated, or solitary?
God No. I’m too busy, too much in demand to acknowledge feelings or the sharing of.
Eve How do you feel about creating us?. We are susceptible to having feelings, and emotions that in turn affect our actions and responses.
God I don’t know. That’s something I might have to work on.
