the night's friend
the night's friend
When the world is fast asleep,
And the shadows grow so deep,
I look up to the velvet sky,
To see the moon go drifting by.
She does not speak, she does not call,
She simply watches over all.
A silver coin, a glowing pearl,
Above this busy, spinning world.
Sometimes she is full and bright,
A circle made of pure white light.
Sometimes she is just a sliver,
Dancing on the silent river.
No matter if she’s big or small,
She lights the way for one and all.
A lonely lamp in the dark of night,
Giving us her gentle light.
