The Irony Of A Bleeding Woman

The journey of pain is nothing new to a woman

Even before a girl can grow to understand her surroundings

it becomes imperative for her to understand her body.

Unbearable pain and hormonal changes are a monthly ritual;

The fact that she cannot openly express about her state of being adds to her pain,

But by God's grace, she bears all this to understand her journey on this earth.

Ignominy attached to menstruation is still appalling

Its universal acceptance is still wanting;

While a woman is expected to work day and night

A bleeding woman is barred from prayers and festivities;

she is left in isolation to bear her pain;

No wonder God gives her forbearance to bear all.

The disturbing questions remain:

When will a woman’s physical condition find universal acceptance?

When will she rise above the inhibitions of life imposed upon by society?

 

She has to be taught that the pain of periods only makes her strong

To fight and challenge the norm

The fight will soon become history

And unravel the mystery of a bleeding woman.
