The Growing World
The Growing World
For me, the world was first a shell,
A place to sleep, eat and dwell.
Once I hit my beak on the wall,
And ventured out of the place so small.
Soon I was out in the open,
In a cozy little nest,
Free to hop, skip, jump and chirp,
And to eat my share of pest.
In the course of time, things changed,
And yellow leaves flew away with the gale.
The trees were bare, and mother said,
"Its time to fly, or you fail!"
I ventured out of the cozy nest,
Flapped my wings, closed my eyes,
First with fright, then with zest,
Till I was convinced of the world's size.
