The Cosmic Court
The Cosmic Court
It is when the Sun falls down
From the reddened sky into the cosmic ocean
That the Blind Darkness rises up in the Void
With star-studded grandeur and pride
For the Celestial Court to begin
And put the mortal eyes to sleep
Soon the Moon-King arrives
With much fanfare of Emptiness and Quiet
And sits amongst its sparkling courtiers
Who seem to be there, just to take up space.
And they discuss the dreams of thousand witnesses
Who look up to them, sleep in their eyes.
The bushy evergreen forest,
Bear the Brilliant shine of emerald
And the Canvas of the oceans and seas
Is painted in the colors of this starry sky
There is some magic in the dark night
That does not let me sleep.
I too, look up to them expectantly
To bring my daily dose of sleep
Only to keep
looking up to them
For hours, eyes not sleepy
But filled with wild enthusiasm
Waiting for some miracle to happen.
Then suddenly, much to my annoyance
Unwanted blankets of misty fluff
Embrace the moon and the Stars
My Cosmic Court is adjourned
Very abruptly, but I still
Lay awake, dreaming sleepily
At the moment when my eyes
Are at the verge of giving up,
A pair of milky wings of Light, fly
across the starry sky and in its presence
Awakes the Void into a sweet Dawn
The King and his courtiers retreat
The Celestial discussion yet not over,
Is interrupted by the Bright Light of Day
The magic, the sleepiness, the dreams are over
But only this sleepless mortal closes her eyes
In silent prayer to the Celestial Lord up there, somewhere.
