Ode to the Teacher!

I was very small, a kid, when apart from father and mother, the only face-

That brought a cute smile on my face was my teacher,

Slowly, with gentle care, she introduced me to the world of knowledge and wisdom,

I don't remember when I started walking, then running in the number's race,

But I was always mesmerised by her belief in me and my abilities,

And the quote she wrote in my diary with her scented pen:

"Do as you are done by!"

How sweet, the world she sketched appeared to me, pure and full of grace,

In the passage of time, I understood the complexities of life and lost my innocence,

Friends came and left,

Some became foes,

Some backstabbed and increased my woes,

But my teacher never failed me,

Till today her words, wrapped in rainbow moisten my eyes,

 Today on teachers' day may my words touch her feet,

And thank her for teaching me:

"Aspire for glory, but remember nothing comes free!"
