Menstruation
Menstruation
I once was the only one
In this house I made myself
To shelter my inner core
With steel and bricks
And all was good
Alone
Until she came
With a look of celebration
With a look of something
I didn't comprehend
Storming into my house
With boxes of decoration
Of magenta and yellow
Still that bright smile
Company
She said a baby was coming
So without a thought, she went to it
Painted some walls yellow
And others magenta
Streamers, balloons, cribs, clothes
All of the same colors
Celebration
I was glad of the company
I just didn't want her company
Not her kind of company
So I decided to stop her, gently
I shook her shoulder and said
"There is no baby coming"
She stood there unmoving
Refusal
Took a second for the gears to kick in
And when it did, her bright look
That bright look she had just disappeared
It went into a frown,
Her eyes turned grey and dull
Then, she looked at the baby room
How perfectly and wonderfully
Decorated it was, magenta and yellow
Betrayal
She tore the whole room apart,
Little by little the colors started to mix
The magenta and the yellow
Just started melting from the walls
The whole room was just a pool
Of that one color, it made mixed
With the solids of a broken baby room
She was covered in it too
Red
And she wasn't done for she looked at me
She then ran across
The increasing sea level of red
I backed up to the door
Of my house and opened it
Escape
The pool of red paint
That once was magenta and yellow
With broken parts of the baby room
Flowed out through the door
Along with her
And when she went, she said
"I'm not done with you!
I'm coming back next month!"
Gone
I just stood there, trying to close my door
But I didn't for the overflowing pool of red
Was too strong, it did for days at a time
When I did close my door
I turned to see a blank room
With yellow sunrays peaking through
I was alone once again
