Me and You

Me and You

Maybe one day,

you will come all dressed up,

with happiness dripping off your body

and reaching me as I embrace you

you will ask,

whether I had my dinner,

and without waiting for my answer

you will take me to your kitchen,

fix me a sandwich and ask how I am.

You won’t wait for my incoherent mumble,

for you will know all you need to know,

and you will do all you need to do,

without looking for signs of approval.

We will sit on your ever clean floor,

me dressed in the same old flannel shirt,

you in your brand new frock,

which you obviously picked up for me

but wore yourself to show how beautiful

It will look on ME instead.

Oh I know all your tactics!
