Mahatma's true disciple

Mahatma's true disciple

Deeply fascinated by

Mahatma’s life and work

Madeline Slade a British lass

Accepted hard principles

Named Meera, admitted to fold

The great leader was looked

After like beloved father

Accompanied him everywhere

To London conference and

To the jail many times

After many years on

Handsome and brave

Sardar Prithvi Singh

Mahatma’s ardent follower,

Respecting the rules joined the folks

Meera had fallen in love

Forgetting the solidarity to pledge

Considering the natural instinct,

On her humble confession

Marriage permission was

Granted by the most generous heart

However, disagreed Prithivi absconded

Heart broken Meera

Tortured herself neglecting

Everything meditated for years

Greatly moved and pained

Prithivi was brought back

By the Mahatma

Knowing her sorrow and suffering

He was not at all shaken

Regretted with folding hands

“I have been regarding Meera

As a sister according to pledge

I only love my country

And would like to die for freedom”

Enjoying the nation’s Independence

Finding the great task over

Satisfied Prithivi married

To a much young girl

A son and a daughter

Was born to the son of the soil

‘Jay Hind’
