Lovers on Stilts

While happiness is like a double edged sword,

The beauty is in the walk.

I am satiating this pain by enduring it,

This masochism is only relieving.

The walk along this double edged sword

Leads me to a reality worth believing.

We are lovers on stilts. We are bound to fall,

Every now and then.

But we will get back up and we will walk on.

Imagine how beautiful it will be then.

Cigarette breath and nicotine stains,

Coffee rings on window panes.

There is no bitter taste, but the taste of you,

Is all that remains.

Every fall along this walk

Will only strengthen the child in me.

Every step we take together

Will only set us free.

So let me take your hand

And come walk with me…
