Children Others

Kids Who Grew Up Way Too Fast

Kids Who Grew Up Way Too Fast

We are fourteen, and all our legs are already too long to fit in these kindergarten chairs,

All these walls are full of picture frames flashing moments of happiness everywhere,

But now all we do is feel nostalgic and think of ways to get out of this warfare,

Just sitting here wondering how life can be so unfair.

Lying on the sanguinary bed of teenage,

We notice every drop of our blood that once used to flow in our veins,

Drip out of our hearts

We are all just kids who grew up way too fast.

We are fifteen, and we are already feeling the need to change ourselves and have new year resolutions,

Little kids all caught up in a cycle of revenge and retribution,

Creating problems and crying for solutions,

I couldn't care less is the new locution.

And then a few among us, sneak out to search for the happiness we long left on the playground grass,

We are all just kids who grew up way too fast.

We are sixteen, and our eyes have stopped journeying to the wallclock every minute until it's four,

When we can finally go out and play until our legs are all sore,

Nor can we remember the last time we ran up to the terrace after ringing the bell on the first floor,

And it kills me to realize that naptime isn't a punishment no more.

Because all we are successful in doing is getting into the shoes of someone we aren't and never did we ask

We are all just kids who grew up way too fast.

We are seventeen, and we are already dying to be kids again, dying to go back in time,

Because those people have so casually left us, we once used to call our lifelines,

We don't remember the last time we shared what happened at school with our families, nor do we remember having a bedtime

Just sitting here wondering what changed us all this while.

Just wondering, when do the stitches that used to be on our bodies,

Made their way to our hearts

We are all just kids who grew up way too fast
